Academic Navigators provide individualized support to undergraduate students experiencing academic, personal, financial or campus-related challenges. Faculty, staff, instructors, campus partners and others may refer a student who could benefit from additional outreach, help identifying next steps or a connection to university resources.
You do not need to know exactly what kind of support a student needs before making a referral. An Academic Navigator will reach out to the student, learn more about their situation and help them develop a plan for moving forward.
After a referral is submitted, an Academic Navigator will review the information provided and determine the appropriate next steps, which may include outreach to the student, coordination with campus partners, or connection to additional resources. Referrals are an important part of creating a coordinated network of support around students, and Academic Navigators work to keep appropriate partners connected to that process. When FERPA allows, we may share updates with the person who made the referral. When it does not, the Academic Navigator can still continue working with the student and coordinating appropriate support, even if we are unable to report back to the referrer.
